Aquaphobia...bah!

Well, I did it.  Well, actually, part of it.  Part of what?  Scuba training!  Tom and I completed our confined water dives and classroom training over last weekend - 2 long days (7 hours each) of classroom and pool work combined. Being a bit afraid of water (being under water specifically), you may wonder why I'd want to scuba.  One of the worst reasons for getting scuba certified is "I want to get over my fear of water".  Well, I went anyway (with partially that in mind).  But, really, we want it "in our bag of tricks" for when we travel.  We have been many places where we could've worked a day of diving in, and we don't want to miss those opportunities in the future (most recently the Red Sea in Jordan).

So, off we went to training - I have to say, I was not even nervous the first day!  Shocking.  The second, I was a bit apprehensive, but it went great as well.   There was only a small moment of panic, but I recovered and got past it.  Our 4 open water dives will be in Bonaire (near Venezuela) in a few weeks and then we'll be certified!  I'm looking forward to swimming closer to coral, following fish and just geting down a bit under the surface.

Old dogs...

I guess you can teach old dogs new tricks, it just takes a while. Our good friends took us skate skiing on New Years Day. It was very challenging!  Who knew form could be so important!?  But I want to go it again, since I hear your first day is always hard. It was really good to use the body and brain to learn something new!  Oh, and Tom made a kick-ass snow angel.
