Meet Katy.

She's tiny, timid, terrified and terribly unsure of herself.   We picked her up on Saturday - she's part of the Chihuahua and Small Dog Rescue.  I had hoped Lucy and her would be the best of friends from the start, but she's a bit defensive, having had a hard life thus far.
Other interesting Katy facts:
1)      She is smaller than a tiny cat
2)      She has huge bat ears
3)      She doesn't like to chase squirrels or birds, but I may have caught her bolting after a butterfly yesterday
4)      She wants to be outside during the day
5)      She wants to be inside at night
6)      She stays where you put her – very odd, it is like she’s frozen sometimes
7)      She won't go potty on demand - this is hard when she needs to go before we leave for work!
8)      She doesn't know how to play with any toys.  Tom slowly rolled a tennis ball toward her last night and apparently she jumped up at the last minute and landed on her side.  He said it was like bowling.  :)  I may have to try this tonight.
9)      She loves cheese
Hopefully her personality will start to unfold (or form) after some time bonding with us and Lucy.  Cross your fingers everyone!

Berries.

Tom finished my raspberry and blackberry trellace today, it looks great...let the fruitfulness begin!  Let's hope we make it to them before the birds do.

Absolutely gorgeous Memorial Day weekend in Colorado!  Sunny and mid 80s, a little blast of summer.

Early morning at the Rec Center

I have every other Friday off of work, and sometimes after I teach my 6am yoga class, I head to the rec center. I've come to the conclusion that what single twenty-somethings are to a "chain" gym, retirees are to the rec center early in the morning, at least in mine. I would estimate that 95% of clients before 8am are over 60.

Men mostly use the circuit machines (when they greet each other, they always shake hands) while the women are kicking it to the senior aerobics class. They socialize over the fly machine and talk in the hallways. It's a really quite a flurry of activity. I wonder, is it something akin to a senior singles mixer, or just a social occasion? What if a new person shows up? Are they like the new kid in class? Is there gossip? I don't know, but I wish I did. What I do know is that I think it's wonderful...I hope to be that active and motivated when I reach retirement!

My picture for today is the view I never get sick of from one of my favorite trail runs. Happy Long Weekend!

Truly a GREEN mountain

I wait on it every year - the few weeks that Green Mountain is actually GREEN, and this is that time for 2013.  Everything is so lush and bright right now, it reminds me of Ohio (only with mountains and a lot less humidity).  So, last night on my trail run on the mountain, I took a few pictures of the pure greenness, and some wildflowers.  So pretty - and clearly everyone thought so, it was the most crowded the trails have been yet this year.

In other news, we may get our "small" (as Tom and I like to call all dogs under 15 lbs) tomorrow!  We have been approved to foster with Chihuahua and Small Dog Rescue (http://www.chihuahua-smalldogrescue.org/).  We are stopping by a big adoption event at the PetCo in Golden and perhaps taking one home.  We're unsure how Lucy will react - she always loves smalls when she meets them, but what about a 24/7 small in her house?  TBD.

Dogs!

The picture of the day...I'm very excited to volunteer with Freedom Service Dogs this Friday! This nonprofit rescues dogs from shelters, trains them and then finds forever homes helping people with disabilities. Such a good cause...

The other piece of dog news is that we have a home visit tonight from the Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue to possibly be a foster home! Lucy loves a good "small", so we are hoping she'll enjoy a bit of company, TBD!!

The first hummingbirds...

There's nothing that announces spring has arrived quite like the return of the first hummingbirds (or "hummers").

I just put my feeders out last weekend and with very few flowers blooming (and the ones that have blossomed early covered with snow most of this week), my feeders have been busy! I've spotted a pair of broadtails so far, hopefully more to come as the weather continues to warm...
